Act like a Christian

By: Laymond Meredith

Do you see anything wrong with this command? I have heard it as I am sure you have from more than one pulpit. When you are in the public act like a Christian so we can give an example to those who are watching. I ask again do you see anything wrong with this encouraging statement? I certainly do. I will try to explain just what I mean, but as I always try to do, I will explain with help from God. Mt:5:16: Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Jn:8:12: Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. Sometimes we as Christians have no problem being a Christian at Church or at home, but we fear ridicule in the outside world so we tend to conform to that world when we are in it. We are not, or should not be chameleons be the same animal in public as in private, be a Christian don’t try to hide among non-Christians to avoid the heat of ridicule. In order to be a light to others we have to endure the heat, I ask what light is there that is produced without heat? Gal:5:25: If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Be proud to walk in the spirit and never deny it. Mt:10:33: But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven. When we are in the outside world treat people as you would in church or your home. Always be a good neighbor. Mt:22:39: And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. OK you ask what is wrong with acting like a Christian? Well I have a small problem with the word act. Let’s leave the acting to the actors I believe we could transpose the word pretend “Pretend as if you are a Christian” Always let your actions be of a Christian nature but never “act like a Christian” If you are a Christian be a Christian no matter the place or time. We won’t have to endure the heat forever. Rv: 7:15: Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them. 16: They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. I don’t find anywhere that Christ tells us to act like a Christian, I find the word act only once in the New Testament. I really don’t know how to act like a Christian, I know many and have met many more and they all act differently, so when you are told to act like a Christian first you would have to pick one to act like. Be a Christian but be yourself no matter where you are or who you are with at the time.
